Transform Project Team

Augustin is the Director of the Argentine Cochrane Centre-Institute for Clinical Effectiveness and Health Policy (Argentine Cochrane Centre-IECS), as part of the Southern American Branch of the Iberoamerican Cochrane Network. He is an active Cochrane reviewer with multiple Cochrane groups.

Project Executive, Cochrane Crowd Co-Lead, Task Exchange Co-Lead, Key Contact for Trial Search Coordinators, Training and Consumers

Anna is excited about Project Transform because it represents a real opportunity to put into practice some new processes that will bring efficiencies to evidence production. Anna is leading on the component of Transform that aims to make it easier for people to contribute to Cochrane through the provision of tasks aimed at identifying and classifying relevant trials and studies.

Anna is also the Trials Search Coordinator for Cochrane Dementia and Cognitive Improvement, a member of the CRS support team, and is a coordinator of the Embase project, which uses crowdsourcing as a means of screening and identifying reports of randomised trials.

Anneliese Synnot

 

Transform Project Team

Annie Synnot wears many hats, with roles as a Research Fellow, Editor (and PhD candidate!) with Cochrane Consumers and Communication, and as a Research Fellow at Cochrane Australia and the Australian & New Zealand Intensive Care Research Centre. The common thread with all these roles is innovation in evidence synthesis - both in terms of producing and publishing reviews and new ways to involve and work with stakeholders.

She has been working on a large scale pilot of living systematic reviews in traumatic brain injury with the CENTER-TBI project since 2013 and looks forward to building on this work with the Living Systematic Reviews pilot in the Production Models component of Transform.

Charlotte is the CEO of Cochrane Innovations Limited, where she oversees the development of new business opportunities and projects that build upon, but retain continuity with, existing Cochrane products.

Chris is committed to Project Transform because it will help Cochrane to “scale” and bring people and process together with enabling technologies to improve efficiency in producing Cochrane evidence.

Chris heads up Cochrane’s Informatics and Knowledge Management Department (IKMD), sits on Cochrane’s Senior Management Team, and leads Cochrane’s Linked Data Project.

Chris is pleased to be involved with Project Transform because it is a valuable opportunity to combine smart approaches to evidence production with developing research literacy skills and learning about how research is implemented and evaluated. Chris is a Cochrane Learning and Support Officer. He has experience in evidence synthesis and evaluation research, and training and professional development to support change in clinical practice.

Clive is happy to be part of Project Transform because...well...something really does need to change in the Cochrane review production-line, which has morphed from a swift hare to a sluggish tortoise. Clive is keen to help put rocket boosters on the tortoise.

Clive is Co-ordinating Editor of Cochrane Schizophrenia. Clive has a keen interest in medical informatics, and has experience of biomedical search techniques and using machines to help surmise evidence.

Daniel is the co-founder and current Chief Technology Officer of Epistemonikos, and contributed to the development of PDQ-Evidence, a resource database to aid in evidence-based decision-making.

David Tovey

Project Executive, Production Models Co-Lead, Production Models Working Group, Key Contact for Cochrane Editorial Unit and Co-ordinating Editors

David has been the Editor in Chief of the Cochrane Library since 2009 and Deputy CEO of Cochrane since 2013. David is responsible for the quality of all content published by Cochrane, a task that he has tackled through the Methods Expectations for Cochrane Intervention Reviews (MECIR) project, of which he was overall lead, and his membership of the MARS working group.

Demián is an active Cochrane reviewer with Cochrane Menstrual Disorders and Subfertility, and is an investigator in the Health Technology Assessment and Economics Evaluation group at the Argentine Cochrane Centre-IECS.

Gabriel Rada

Gabriel is keen to contribute to the Evidence Pipeline component of Project Transform because of his interest in information technologies for improving the efficiency of evidence synthesis production.

Gabriel is the Co-director of the Southern American Branch of the Iberoamerican Cochrane Network, Editor with the Cochrane Effective Practice and Organisation of Care Group and is an active reviewer with multiple other Cochrane groups. Gabriel, in collaboration with Daniel Pérez, founded and launched Epistemonikos, one of the largest and more innovative databases of health research evidence. He is Director of Epistemonikos foundation, a non-for-profit organisation created to maintain the database, and has since become involved in several technological developments in evidence-based health care, such as the interactive Summary of Findings tables. Gabriel is passionate about creating digital systems that make it easier to find and access good resources to inform evidence-based decision-making.

Geraldine is the Co-ordinating Editor of Cochrane Developmental, Psychosocial and Learning Problems, a role she has occupied since the group’s establishment in 1998. She is also a member of Cochrane’s Co-Ordinating Editors Executive.

Gordon is Director of Metaxis Limited, which developed the Cochrane Register of Studies (CRS) in partnership with Cochrane. Gordon is also a member Cochrane’s Linked Data Project, which aims to make finding, sharing and combining information easier.

Ian thinks Project Transform will make a difference by preparing Cochrane to make much more efficient use of its most valuable resource – its contributors (and their time) – helping us remain at the forefront of evidence production and use for better health outcomes in the emerging new dynamic, tech-enabled evidence ecosystem.

Ian is a member of the Cochrane Methods Executive and the Campbell and Cochrane Economics Methods Groups, where he works to support the inclusion of economic perspectives and evidence in systematic reviews, and evaluation of the costs and effects of methods and related processes designed to improve the efficiency of systematic review and research synthesis workflows.

James thinks Project Transform will make a difference by developing new ways for people to contribute to Cochrane, maximising our capacity to find research quickly and produce reviews that people need more efficiently.

James is passionate about developing methods for research synthesis and using emerging information technologies in research. He is also Director of the Department of Health Review Facility of the Evidence for Policy and Practice Information and Co-ordinating Centre (EPPI-Centre, UCL).

Julian is a Senior Research Fellow at the Australasian Cochrane Centre and founder and CEO of Covidence, a non-profit online platform that improves the efficiency of evidence synthesis. Covidence has recently been selected as the standard platform for production of Cochrane reviews. Julian's research is focussed on investigating how we can achieve high-quality, up-to-date health evidence, including living systematic reviews.

Karla is keen to contribute to Project Transform because as part of her role as Cochrane’s Deputy Editor in Chief she acts as a liaison between the activities of the Cochrane Editorial Unit (CEU) and Cochrane Innovations. Among the CEU targets for 2016 in which Karla is directly involved is a project aiming to improve the editorial process for Cochrane Review Groups; both these activities overlap with the goals of the Production Models component of Project Transform.

Karla was recently appointed Deputy Editor in Chief of Cochrane. Her role includes supporting the Editor in Chief in delivering Cochrane’s objectives and targets. Karla will also support the CEO of Cochrane Innovations by leading the editorial development of new business products and services.

Linn works at the MAGIC research project, where she explores ways to improve the creation and dissemination of evidence-based guidelines, focussing on technology and collaboration. She is also a PhD candidate in the PLUGGED-IN project, which seeks to develop a new model for clinical decision support systems.

Lorne is a Director of Cochrane Innovations Limited. At Cochrane Innovations he engages and develops new projects to expand the breadth of Cochrane’s outputs. Lorne is also a member of Cochrane’s Linked Data Project.

Melissa will contribute to Project Transform by helping to ensure the project team is on track to deliver the key components over the course of the project – on time and within budget. She will also coordinate project communications so the Cochrane community is kept up to date with progress and made aware of opportunities to get involved in this exciting project.

Melissa is the Project Manager for Project Transform and also Business Manager of Cochrane Australia.

Rachel is Co-ordinating Editor of Cochrane Depression, Anxiety and Neurosis. She is also a member of the Cochrane Methods Application and Review Standards (MARS) Advisory Committee.

Ruth is the information specialist at the Cochrane Editorial Unit (CEU) where she provides information services and consultancy to the Cochrane Central Executive Team. Ruth has a key role in the development and management of the Cochrane Register of Studies (CRS) and is currently managing a pilot of the Cochrane Centralised Search Service.

Co-Director of the Australasian Cochrane Centre, a role she shares with Steve McDonald. Sally is an active Cochrane reviewer and CI on several research projects that aim to improve health outcomes by investigating the most effective and efficient pathway of knowledge from research result to sustained change in clinical practice and policy.

Project Executive, Evidence Pipeline Co-Lead, Key Contact for Centres

Steve is Co-Director of Cochrane Australia and represented Centres on the Cochrane Steering Group from 2008-2015. His first job in Cochrane was to supervise an army of paid volunteers to find reports of randomised trials by manually searching through 80 years of back issues of The Lancet and BMJ. It was dusty, time-consuming but very fruitful work. Times have changed, but the process of identifying studies for reviews still consumes far more time and resources than it should. Project Transform promises to consign to history the many hours authors spend doing a task that machines are much better suited to.

Sue is the Managing Editor at Cochrane Dementia and Cognitive Improvement. Also a member of the Internal Advisory Group for the Cochrane Review Group Structure and Function Project, she plays an important role in guiding the direction of Cochrane’s future projects and products.

Project Executive, Task Exchange Co-Lead, Production Models Working Group, Key Contact for Managing Editors, Authors and Fields

Tari is excited to be part of Project Transform because it brings together three of her favourite things: people, knowledge and technology (she also loves mango, kung fu movies and cello music but she hasn't worked out how to build them into Transform yet).

Tari is a Senior Research Fellow at the Australasian Cochrane Centre, and her passion is supporting evidence-based decision-making to ensure the best possible outcomes. She enjoys designing, finding, synthesising and communicating research, and she loves seeing research actually make a difference.
