David Tovey - Editor in Chief

I am responsible for ensuring that The Cochrane Library meets its strategic goals: that the quality is of high quality and relevant to the needs of stakeholders. I also have responsibility for working with our publishers and others to ensure that the presentation and delivery of Cochrane content is optimal – and that it is accessible to and actionable by decision makers. Finally, I share responsibility for ensuring that product is sustainable, and that Cochrane develops its methods appropriately, and that review authors, editorial teams and the methods community are all supported in helping to deliver high quality, high impact products and services.

Hilary Simmonds - PA to Editor in Chief

Essentially my job is to make David Tovey’s day, week, and month easier by managing his diary, organising conference calls, travel and expenses. I am also on hand to assist in the running of the CEU if needed and to help other members of staff.

Karla Soares-Weiser - Deputy Editor in Chief

My job is to support the Editor in Chief in ensuring that the CEU can deliver on its targets and projects. My roles include: contributing to the development of the CEU strategy, providing editorial and management support for projects and programmes within CEU, and overseeing specific high-profile projects and programmes on behalf of the Editor in Chief. Additionally, I function as the liaison between Cochrane Innovations, the Editor in Chief, and the CEU team. In this role I am responsible for the editorial development of new business products and services for Cochrane.

Toby Lasserson - Senior Editor

My remit here is to assure and to support improvement in the quality of Cochrane Reviews through the development and implementation of methodological standards. I oversee the CEU review screening programme, and advise the Editor in Chief regarding methodological issues in Cochrane Reviews. I provide ongoing advice and support to CRGs regarding the development of their own quality assurance mechanisms and also help to resolve disputes and to address queries which are referred to the CEU regarding implementation of methods in Cochrane Reviews. I work with the external affairs team to decide which Cochrane Reviews should generate press releases and other related media activity.

Harriet MacLehose - Senior Editor

My job is to support the work of the Editor in Chief and the work of the Cochrane Editorial Unit to ensure that The Cochrane Library meets the needs of users and reflects the commitment of editorial teams and authors. I am involved in a number of projects across a range of areas, and these give me the opportunity to work with people across the Central Executive Team, Cochrane groups, and Wiley. Projects include oversight of the publishing contract and the related technology roadmap with the Publishing Management Team; participation in several technology roadmap projects; contribution to several Strategy to 2020 targets, including open access, accessible language, CRG structure and function, user experience, and translation; management of the Managing Editor Support team; and development and implementation of editorial and publishing policies."

Sera Tort - Clinical Editor

Working on Cochrane Clinical Answers (CCAs) is where the majority of my time is spent here. CCAs provide a condensed overview of the most clinically relevant results of a Cochrane Review with the aim to make results from research more accessible to clinicians and inform point of care decision making. I am involved in all the stages of CCA production: data extraction, writing, editing and final sign off, as well as communicating directly with review authors, associate editors and clinical advisors and promoting CCAs in webinars and workshops. Other jobs I am also involved with are Patient Safety, Special Collections, and Covidence.

John Hilton - Editor

I work with CEU colleagues Harriet MacLehose and Monaz Mehta to maintain and develop the Cochrane Library and to support Cochrane Review Groups by developing editorial policies and guidance, and I am currently involved in a major project with CET and Wiley teams to develop the next version of the Cochrane Library. I have particular responsibility for overseeing the process by which Comments on Cochrane Reviews are submitted and managed. I also edit and publish Editorials on the Cochrane Library, and I work with Elizabeth Royle to manage the copy-editing of Cochrane Reviews and to maintain the Cochrane Style Manual.

Jackie Chandler - Methods Co-ordinator

I provide support to our highly regarded methodologists (Methods Groups) to achieve the strategic aims and operational activities of the organisation by managing projects to develop and implement strategies, policies and systems that advance methodological developments to improve the quality of Cochrane Reviews. This involves enabling methodologists to support and train authors, and Review Group editors, as well keeping Cochrane informed of new methodological developments.

Ruth Foxlee - Information Specialist

I provide information specialist services and consultancy within the Central Executive Team. This includes managing the development of the Cochrane Register of Studies (CRS) & CRS Online (CRSO, working with our publishers to ensure that the search interface of the Cochrane Library meets the needs of users, managing the CIS Support Team, literature searching and peer review, advice to users of the Cochrane Library, information specialist advice to Cochrane colleagues, and engaging with the wider library & information science community. I also support the work of the Editor in Chief by managing the Cochrane Priority Review List and the Cochrane Review Support Programme.

Elizabeth Royle - Manager of Copy Edit Support

I manage the CEU’s Copy Edit Support (CES) team, responsible for copy-editing protocols, reviews, updates and overviews prior to publication on the Cochrane Library. I recruit copy-editors to the team, support them in their work and ensure the quality of their work remains high. I devise, pilot and calibrate copy-editing accreditation tests, and contribute to the Cochrane Style Manual. I provide answers to specific questions about Cochrane style, liaise between MEs and copy-editors, and deliver training in presentation of reviews.
