Version 1.4

These are the combined terms and conditions. All use of Cochrane Account, including access to Archie, is subject to the Cochrane Account terms and conditions. Access to Archie is subject to the additional Archie Terms of Use.

Cochrane Account: Terms and Conditions

  1. Data protection
Individuals should be able to trust that their contact details are treated responsibly and are only shared between those who have a valid reason for accessing them. Our data protection policy sets out our commitment to you with regard to how your data will be stored and used. This is available on the Cochrane data protection policy page.

  2. Accounts are personal
Each user account must be used by one individual only. Any sharing of logins and passwords is not allowed.

  3. Responsible password use
It is your responsibility to set a strong password (i.e. one that is difficult for both humans and computers to guess), to not divulge it to third parties, and to change it when you fear it may have been compromised.

  4. Actions are logged
The system can log all actions performed by users. The system administrators retain the right to any analysis of the logs for security or optimisation purposes.

  5. Cookies
Any Cochrane systems that you log in to with your Cochrane Account, will track you using cookies. The primary purpose is to verify that you are logged in, but we are also able to record the pages you visit, which is used for compiling usage statistics.

  6. Security
The Archie server has strict security in place to prevent intruder entry and retrieval of personal information about its users.

  7. Access to systems
Your Cochrane Account is your primary means of logging in to Cochrane’s systems, Cochrane partner systems, and potentially other third party systems. Access to any system may be subject to additional terms and conditions, and may be restricted at the discretion of the system’s responsible party. Violation of another system’s terms and conditions using your Cochrane Account will constitute a violation of these terms and conditions. Third party systems may ask for your consent to access your personal information or to perform certain actions on your behalf.

  8. Communications
Cochrane will contact you about issues relating to your account or your work with Cochrane. To receive newsletters or other general communications from Cochrane you will need to opt in to receive communications in My Account. If you are opted in to communications we may use the information you provide in the ‘interests’ section to send you tailored communications in your area of interest. We will always use your primary email address for general communications. Your secondary email address is a back-up that we will only use if there is a problem with your main address.

  9. Sanctions
It is the responsibility of the system administrators to terminate any user accounts that are used in violation of these terms immediately. Any disputes over terminated accounts will be handled by the Cochrane Central Executive.

  10. Updates to these Terms and Conditions
These terms and conditions may be updated from time to time. We will inform you of any updates and users will always be expected to adhere to the latest published version.
