Announcing the launch of Cochrane Pakistan

We are delighted to announce the launch of Cochrane Pakistan, the first Cochrane Geographic Group in a new country in five years. This marks a significant milestone in our mission to expand access to evidence-based healthcare worldwide.

Pakistan, as a low-middle-income country, faces unique healthcare challenges, including limited randomized controlled trials and a lack of awareness regarding systematic reviews and meta-analyses. The establishment of Cochrane Pakistan will enable wider use in the region of high-quality evidence to address healthcare gaps and support informed decision-making.

Prof. Wasim Alamgir, Chairman of the Cochrane Pakistan Advisory Board, explained: “I am proud to be part of a global network that is dedicated to advancing evidence-based healthcare. Our mission is to provide reliable, high-quality information to support better decision-making in health policy, practice, and research. We strive to collaborate with healthcare professionals, researchers, and communities to ensure that our work is impactful and accessible.”

Cochrane Pakistan’s priorities include research on diseases highly prevalent in the country, such as diabetes and its complications, chronic kidney disease, maternal and infant mortality, thalassemia, and infectious diseases. The group aims to reduce healthcare disparities by producing systematic reviews and meta-analyses tailored to Pakistan’s healthcare landscape, while fostering collaborations with international experts.

The aim is that Cochrane Pakistan will contribute to a culture of evidence-based practice and improved health outcomes, bringing healthcare changes to both local and global communities. We are excited to welcome Cochrane Pakistan into the Cochrane family and look forward to the positive impact they will create.

In addition to Cochrane Pakistan, Cochrane has added six additional affiliates, if you like more information on them check their local announcements:
