We are delighted to announce that Nigel Jones has been appointed to the Governing Board. Members of the Governing Board are Trustees of the Charity and Directors of The Cochrane Collaboration Company. Nigel was appointed after a robust recruitment exercise and will become Treasurer when Karen Kelly stands down later on this year.
Nigel is currently the Finance Director at The Seafarers' Charity alongside being a Trustee at West Sussex Mind. He has extensive financial experience from a career that included being both Group Financial Controller and Head of Investment for one of the UK's leading insurance companies. He left full time employment in 2017 to focus on supporting charities, applying insights from his commercial experience to help them focus their precious financial resources on activity that delivers the best outcomes for the people they support. Nigel also enjoys spending time doing hands-on charitable work for a couple of community charities that provide financial advice and advocacy to people in crisis.
Commenting on his appointment, Nigel said “I am delighted to have been asked to join the Governing Board of such an important and respected charity. I am looking forward to working with my fellow Trustees and the leadership team at Cochrane to ensure that the Charity continues to flourish and to use its financial resources to maximise the vital impact we make in improving healthcare outcomes around the world.”
Dr Susan Phillips, Chair of the Governing Board said, “I am so pleased that Nigel has been appointed to the Governing Board and look forward to working closely with him to ensure that the Governing Board fulfils all its financial duties and responsibilities. I am grateful to Karen Kelly who has agreed to remain on the Board until early December so that we can ensure a smooth handover of the role of Treasurer from Karen to Nigel.”
